For some companies the corona crisis is a disaster, for others an opportunity. MK Vertalingen received a large number of new requests from companies in the food and logistics industries. These companies are responding to the demand for new machines and products. This also includes manuals in various languages.
Automated shopping cart washing station
Empas commissioned MK Vertalingen to translate the manual for a mobile automated shopping cart washing station. Empas generally manufactures spray equipment for horticulture, weed control and de-icing.
Coronavirus
The company is accustomed to responding to current events. For example, the company was already involved in the eradication of the oak processionary caterpillar. Currently, in the fight against coronavirus, Empas is focused on the cleaning and disinfection of shopping carts. “Because we were faced with a declining demand for our other products, we began looking for something that aligned with our expertise in the field of cleaning machines,” says Nees van den Oosterkamp, head of Empas’ business section.
Spray nozzles
Similar to a car wash, the automated cart washing station cleans and disinfects shopping carts for supermarkets, DIY stores and garden centres, using spray nozzles. These nozzles, which are fitted with an injector, are connected to a water tap. Four spray nozzles on both sides and three spray nozzles at the top, spray the cart. The cart is sprayed by nozzles on both sides, and also from above. The injector allows the ratio of water to disinfectant to be regulated.
Inspection of the disinfected shopping carts using a UV lamp and a fluorescent agent revealed overwhelmingly successful results. “The spray nozzles disinfected the entire shopping cart”, says Van den Oosterkamp. “In addition to disinfecting, there is also a cleaning function, which uses dirt blasters and an external high-pressure cleaner to remove dirt as the cart passes through the washing station.”
Interest from all over Europe
The machine came into operation in May. Not only from within the Netherlands, but also from other European countries there has been interest. MK Vertalingen translated the manuals. Van den Oosterkamp: “Collaboration with MK Vertalingen was excellent. The lines are short, the response time is fast, and their whole approach is very friendly.”
“The corona crisis has its negative stories, but also many positive ones. There are opportunities for the Dutch manufacturing industry in particular, and Empas has demonstrated this”, adds Martine Kuijs of MK Vertalingen.
